The Chicago Bulls are expected to waive Rajon Rondo unless a trade materializes before July 1st. The Bulls previously had some trade discussions involving Rondo due to his partially guaranteed contract.
Rondo only has $3 million of his contract for the 17-18 season guaranteed out of his $13.4 million team option.
The Bulls were signaling they intended to keep Rondo before they pivoted towards a rebuild by trading away Jimmy Butler.
In a January interview, he said his goal is to play “six or seven more years.”
Chicago would prefer to save his salary and offer Rondo’s minutes to Kris Dunn and Cameron Payne.
